Hello! Welcome to my e-portfolio. I am excited to introduce myself and my passion for mathematics education. Originally from Orange County, I moved to Santa Barbara to attend Westmont College. I graduated in three years with a degree in mathematics and a minor in dance. During my fourth year, I enrolled in Westmont’s teaching credential program to earn my secondary teaching credential. During my student teaching experience, I had the honor of working alongside and collaborating with two different teachers and teach a Math 1 + Enrichment and Math 3/Pre-Calculus honor course at the high school level. I have always loved mathematics and working with teens, so I knew a career as a mathematics teacher would suit me well. This decision has been confirmed multiple times through different experiences: tutoring students privately, working in a math tutoring center over the summers, and student teaching in junior high and high school. Teaching mathematics brings me indescribable joy! If you would like to know more about my educational background and teaching experiences, I invite you to take a look at my resume.
As a teacher of mathematics, I strive to create a comfortable atmosphere that allows students to explore the beautiful world of mathematics within my classroom. As my students and I navigate through several different mathematical concepts, my hope is that my students experience the beauty, challenge, and relevance of mathematical thinking. In my classes, I will warmly invite my students to engage with mathematical concepts in community with one another. They will be challenged to take control of their competence through curiosity and a growing respect of mathematics and for those around them. If you would like to know more about my beliefs and developing thoughts about mathematics education, I encourage you to read my philosophy of education.
Thank you for your interest in my teaching skills and practices. If you look at the top of this page you will see two pages, one titled "Foundations to Teaching" and one titled "Instructional Strategies." Under the "Foundations to Teaching" tab you will find evidence of my work with teens in the field and under the "Instructional Strategies" tab you will find instructional strategies that I use to teach mathematics. Please feel free to explore and if you have any questions please email me or comment below.
