Anticipatory sets are given at the beginning of a lesson to grab students' attention and spark their interest! A successful anticipatory set will capture students' interest, address the focus of the lesson, and prepare their brains for what they are about to learn. It is important to be brief, visual, and have an element of surprise! When the focus of the lesson is addressed, rationale should be given so students understand the importance and applicability of the day's lesson. As students' brains are being activated, background knowledge should be drawn upon in order to boost their confidence. Overall, anticipatory sets are engaging and add life to lessons. Not every lesson will demand an extraordinary anticipatory set. However, it is important to utilize them when possible and have fun!
